At the north end of Scripps Park is a large stone with a plaque embedded in it,
and the plaque is dedicated to the man who in 1972 was most instrumental in
getting the State of California to declare the Underwater Park a State Park. (This
underwater park extends north to Scripps Pier (about two miles).
